DescriptionCrafty Apes is a global visual effects company with plans of continued expansion. Serving as the senior technology leader reporting to the CTO, you will be leading the Company’s technology strategy, execution, and initiatives and managing key vendor relationships. Additionally, the Director of IT will be focused on supervising all Systems and IT functions whilst collaborating with Operations and Studio heads to assist in any expansions, security and ongoing maintenance of Crafty Apes’ assets and the studios at large.

Crafty Apes is a global company working remotely and the position will manage a global team that work together across all sites to develop, build and support the core infrastructure and computer systems. We are happy to consider candidates with relevant backgrounds, but a solid understanding of the needs of the Visual Effects industry is needed. This is a full-time salaried position with benefits.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Overall responsibility for the smooth running of the global IT infrastructure.
- Work with Crafty team and CTO to define the enterprise architecture for current and future requirements.
- Review, improve and maintain IT security in accordance with strict industry standards (TPN).
- Act as studio contact for security audits and security-related communications with clients.
- Establish and maintain IT policies and practices to support the implementation of strategies set by management.
- Work with team to spec, identify, and procure efficient and cost effective hardware, software and services.
- Facilitate approvals and purchasing of hardware, software and support renewals.
- Inspect the use of technological equipment and software to ensure functionality and efficiency.
- Identify the need for upgrades, configurations or new systems.
- Participate in studio space planning and logistics with COO and Studio Heads.
- Assist in building relationships with vendors and creating cost-efficient contracts.
- Responsible for hiring and managing staff of all levels to provide technical support.
- Manage ticket system to ensure proper delegation and timely resolution of issues.
- Be the main point of contact for systems team, including after hours and on weekends.
- Provide training, guidance and feedback to systems team.
- Delegate and oversee IT projects and initiatives.
- Coordinate with Production to schedule systems support after hours and on weekends when required.
- Oversee Cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS).
- Ensure the global and collaborative systems team is motivated and supported.
- Be the point of contact and help troubleshoot complex or urgent issues that require escalation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Proven experience as Director/Head of IT or similar role.
- 5+ years hands-on experience working in an IT team in a senior role plus 2+ years in a management role.
- BSc in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.
- Experience in analysis, implementation and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications.
- Proactive and willing to engage in the day to day activities of the department.
- Sound understanding of computer systems (hardware/software), networks etc.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Outstanding communication abilities with both Management, Staff and Vendors.
- Experience hiring, managing, and retaining a team of talented technology professionals.
- IT management experience in media and entertainment industry a plus.
- In depth technical understanding preferred, particularly with regards to: Enterprise Storage Technologies (GPFS, ZFS, ReFS);
Enterprise Networking (Switching, Routing, Firewalling); Backup Technologies (Veeam, LTO); Render Management (Thinkbox Deadline); Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes); Cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud); Virtualization Technologies (Hyper-V, VMware, RedHat KVM); Active Directory; Change management (specifically git); Network Monitoring.
