DescriptionSimplified volumetric representations, such as emissive volumes with "baked" lighting, are highly successful at inverse rendering tasks. Correctly accounting for the full volumetric light transport remains challenging.
We identify sources of bias and high variance in existing gradient estimators. Our linear-time estimator, differential ratio tracking, yields unbiased and low-variance gradients.
