DescriptionRussian roulette and splitting are widely used techniques to increase the efficiency of Monte Carlo estimators. Most existing approaches rely on simple heuristics based on albedo and roughness. We derive splitting factors that provably maximize efficiency, achieving up to four times the speed of the current state of the art.
