Biography
Donna J. Cox, MFA, PhD, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), is Professor Emerita School of Art and Design, Michael Aiken Chair Emerita, Director Emerita Advanced Visualization Laboratory, Director Emerita Emerging Digital Research and Education in Arts Media, and Chief Scholar Emerita at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (UIUC). An internationally acclaimed ground-breaker in the art of scientific visualization, she’s known for defining Renaissance Teams to provide interdisciplinary skills in the quest for discovery. She and her collaborators have thrilled millions globally with stunning cinematic presentations of science for giant-screen productions, fulldome, IMAX, and television documentaries. Twice she’s walked the Academy Awards’ red carpet. Among her awards and lifetime achievements, ACM SIGGRAPH awarded Cox with the distinguished lifetime achievement award in digital art and induction into the ACM SIGGRAPH Academy, 2019. She’s lead co-editor and contributor New Media Futures: The Rise of Women in the Digital Arts (2018)
