Twelve years ago, Yosun Chang, as the avatar Ina Centaur, spent a “Year of Seclusion”, where she locked herself in a room with Second Life as her only connection to the outside world. The goal was to be free (in the Walden-sense) to truly create sans politics and “other slings and arrows that defy prolificness.” A digital native, starting penniless in the virtual world — she founded and ran the SL Shakespeare Company (renamed Metaverse Shakespeare in 2009), rezzing and shaping geometry and texture to re-create various historical theatres, costumes, to bring professional theatre into a materialistic virtual world.
